The Perfect Truck for Corporate Events and Network Partners

Discover an advanced truck with everything customers can wish for: cinematic video and up to 7.1.4 immersive audio right inside the truck.

Live corporate and entertainment events need to wow their audiences more than ever before. The delivery has become almost as important as the message organizers wish to send. Video walls showing glimpses of attendees as well as close-ups of the action on stage have become a given. The same is true of audio: pristine sound quality mixed by experts for the delivery through a carefully selected and arranged speaker system—increasingly using immersive or spatial audio—is expected.

FAQ: Outside Broadcasting

Mixed fleets are the reality for any OB operator running at scale. Lawo’s VSM workflow control system is vendor-agnostic by design — it can orchestrate devices across SDI-based, hybrid, and fully IP-native trucks from a single control layer, without requiring every vehicle to be on the same infrastructure generation. This allows fleet operators to standardize their operational workflows and control interfaces even as individual trucks evolve at different speeds toward full IP.

Setup time directly impacts how many jobs a truck can take in a given week. Lawo’s IP-native signal routing eliminates the manual re-patching that SDI-based trucks require between productions. Scene and snapshot recall allows complete signal configurations — routing, processing, monitoring layouts — to be saved per production type and restored in seconds. For fleet operators running multiple events back-to-back, this translates directly into more billable hours and lower crew overtime.

IP infrastructure’s single greatest physical advantage over SDI is the elimination of dedicated point-to-point cabling. Where an SDI truck requires individual coax runs for every signal path, an IP truck routes everything over standard network cables — dramatically reducing cable weight and freeing rack space for production capability rather than infrastructure. Lawo’s processing engines and I/O infrastructure are purpose-engineered for density, delivering more DSP capability per rack unit than any comparable dedicated hardware.

Lawo’s architecture decouples processing from control at the hardware level — the DSP engine stays at the venue, close to the truck, while the console surface and operator interface connect over IP from any location. This is not a workaround; it is how the system is designed to work. Operators in a central hub control the console with the same responsiveness and feature set as if they were sitting in the truck, with redundant IP links maintaining the connection regardless of distance.

Multi-truck productions require signal sharing across independent IP infrastructures — without one truck having to become dependent on the other’s architecture. VSM’s Network Bridging capability allows two or more VSM-controlled installations to selectively share sources across their respective networks, managed from a unified control layer. Engineers on both trucks see the combined signal pool and can route across trucks as naturally as they route within a single vehicle.

Redundancy in an IP-native OB environment must be engineered at every layer, not retrofitted as an afterthought. Lawo’s infrastructure supports optional ST 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching that enables simultaneous dual-redundant network links when activated — with automatic failover that is imperceptible to the production. Redundant processing engines and dual power supplies complete the picture. The same reliability architecture used in national broadcaster flagships is standard in Lawo OB deployments.

Multi-format delivery from a single production environment is a workflow challenge as much as a processing one. Lawo’s signal infrastructure handles simultaneous multi-format output natively — HD, UHD, HDR, and SDR streams can be generated and distributed from the same signal chain without separate parallel infrastructures. Format conversion, frame synchronization, and color space management are handled within the same processing layer that handles routing and mixing.

The capital cost of an IP-native truck build with Lawo infrastructure is comparable to a high-specification SDI truck — but the operational picture diverges significantly over time. Software-based upgrades mean new capabilities arrive as licence activations, not hardware replacement cycles. Simplified cabling reduces maintenance overhead. Remote production capability reduces crew travel costs. And the ability to reconfigure the truck’s functional profile between productions — without physical re-patching — directly increases billable utilization across the fleet’s working life.

Best-of-breed component selection creates integration complexity that grows with every production. Lawo’s platform approach — where the console, processing engine, I/O infrastructure, control system, and facility management platform share a common architecture and are developed by a single engineering team — eliminates that complexity at the source. The result is a signal chain where every component is designed to work with every other, with a single support relationship covering the entire system rather than a matrix of vendor dependencies.
